BlackBook Lowdown
This quirky part-junkshop, part-edgy clothing haven is effortlessly cool by way of the sheer effort it puts into being exactly the opposit. If you have the patience, venture into the tiny space to discover a world of stuff. Lots of stuff. Packed to the brim, random little knick-knacks pepper every spare square inch that isn’t swallowed up by beautiful antiques and vintage clothing. Established by Max Karie, of the stores Shop in Brewer Street, and Pippa Brooks, an in-demand DJ who draws crowds from all over to the George and Dragon just down Hackney Road, the two launched the boutique off of the premise that there is already too much badly made, mass-produced 'stuff' out there, so why produce more? Combining Brooks' modern fashion sensibility and her partner, Nathaniel Lee Jones' history in the reclamation business, the unique shop is a statement on the recycled world of fashion today.
