Once-glammy hotel that hosted Frank Sinatra—who performed a private show there during his stay—Axl Rose and Margaret Thatcher now basks in classic nostalgia. Neck-craning concrete atrium surrounded by rooms is naturally lit, allowing plants inside to grow. Even cheapest rooms come with yesteryear dark wood furniture, wallpaper, bouncy carpet and lights inside closet. Old-school bar with low, red chairs imagines customers with big rings knocking back whiskey on ice to piano music. Services galore, from physiotherapist in pool area to on-site beauty parlor/barber shop. Likely the only hotel in the world that puts on a weekly play chronicling its own history in the downstairs theater.
