Open-air bar with an Olympic-pool-sized covered patio is Vila Madalena’s eccentric souvenir, one of the last original businesses in the area still swinging in prime action. Bohemians old and new frequent it to exchange ideas and updates, likely inspired by any of the counter-culture books they picked up inside stacked next to shelves of VHS videos for rent and convenience store items. Everything seems old because it probably is—if you can get to it behind all the tacky, makeshift plastic covering, that is. Leave with both eyes and stomach full.
