Tradtional, Kyoto-based Japanese cuisine rooted in basics (and it should be—place is a Soho standby from the '80s). Sashimi reigns supreme, celebrity doesn't—place is low profile, doesn't go for frills, although still stands as an in-the-knower. Seasonal menus worth checking out, and don't be afraid to be daring; tasting menus will take you on a ride, tho' not one that plenty of New Yorkers before you haven't been on.
