Page One is a Singapore company, but it’s only got one store there, whereas it’s got three in Hong Kong. It had a fourth, but no one reads in HK (except tabloids, fashion magazines, comics, and architecture coffee table books) so they closed the store in Central. It’s a sad state of affairs. And now they’ve started shrink-wrapping most of their merchandise. The Festival Walk store in Kowloon Tong is the biggest, with a good selection of Chinese books in addition to the core English-language collection. Be patient if it’s American magazines you want — they’re slow to arrive, especially The New Yorker, which is sometimes 2 weeks late. But BlackBook is actually pretty on-time.
