This 1950s dive was Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village's first music venue, and it shows. Cheap and dirty, Phyllis' will book anyone (usually of the hard punk or garage-rock variety) and the crowd, such as it is, is usually on a first-name basis with the band members (band can do what it wants, crowd can too). This takes a lot of pressure off both sides, which can lead to some mind-blowing rock moments.
