Something of a Puxi standard-setter, the Ritz-Carlton has long been a favored VIP and CEO hangout. To meet competition from the city’s new luxe lodgings, a multi-million-dollar overhaul of the entire hotel is slated for completion by the end of 2008. Service standards are a cut above, and the suite of hotel dining is as good as you’ll find west of the river. The lobby lacks for natural light, and prices are rather high, but the central location and savvy concierges make it popular with repeat visitors.
