The restaurant is in a reconverted house that stands on the oldest remaining street in California: that's 1794, y'all. This house itself is relatively young: 1884 is when it came about. The chef still lives there, but it's mostly given over to operations: that herb garden by the patio is where the flavor on the plate comes from. Drinks are served in mason jars and ice cream is hand-churned out back: no detail is spared in the Southern-inspired food.
