Totally unfriendly staff. there isn't a night that goes by where I see the worst of the worst with this club. Patrons getting beat up by bouncers. Racial discrimination at the door. Angry passers-by. Really long lineups. Peopel puking outside. And they all paid too much to get in and waited for ever in line to do so. Then they went in, waited in line and never got their drinks. Thats why they're so messed up - binge-drinking when they finally do get some service. Oh, then when you get your coat from coat check, the girls working are really rude and obnoxious. If you want to pay by credit card, they make you sign a card saying that you will pay a minimum service fee, too, so you're screwed if you go in there. I'm not going back but it's fun to watch the gonggage from outside on weekends.
I'm easy-going and I love places with chilled out music, gorgeous decor, generous drinks, attentive service and really friendly people. This is why I will not go back to Republic. The decor is nice, but the lineup was long (complete with the whole "velvet rope" mentality), the drinks weren't great & weren't worth the price, staff wasn't friendly, and there was just a generally uncool vibe from people who were more focused on posing rather than having a good time. Like quite a few places along Granville lately, the pretentiousness of this bar is astounding and completely undeserved.
