Tough act to follow occupying the former home of 31-year vet Café Mozart – the self-proclaimed (yet slightly creepy) “San Francisco’s Most Romantic Restaurant.” Given a smart, subdued makeover courtesy of co-owner and chef Matt McNamara’s mother, including a charming back waiting room, it could live up to its predecessor’s moniker. Neat, compact menu is Italy-meets-California, comprised of cleverly chosen and combined ingredients, presented artfully. We loved the squab breast and the lavender pork belly. Desserts are top-notch. Could signal a renaissance of sorts for Bush Street (or as we like to call it, Obama Street). Good lookin’ staff, too.
