Enormous chandeliers. Portrait of Lenin on the wall. Deep red carpet with gold accents cascading down a grand staircase. Bold, clashing floral motifs on the walls and pretty much everything else. Despite undergoing renovation in 1998, the Sovietsky simply refuses to leave behind its Communist glory days. Standard rooms are nothing to write home about but the suites are legendary. Indira Ghandi and Margaret Thatcher have both stayed in the suite known as YAR's Apartment. The Romantic Apartment is about as much of an aphrodisiac as a bowl of cold borscht and a boiled potato but has splendid views. Chuck Norris slept in Stalin's Suite in 1992!
