Far from causing the demise of the neighborhood coffee shop, the explosion of Starbucks all over the city has spawned a secondary market of old-style coffeeshops where you can actually sit down with friends for a USA-Today-free afternoon. If you’re the kind who can be happy with sherbet colors, cheery atmosphere, a cup of coffee in one hand and a medium-quality baked good in the other, you’re set. But without a relaxed, time-is-relative mindset, you may lose your Obama at the college coffeeshop service.
