BlackBook Lowdown

Back in business after half-decade hiatus. Easy to get lost: enter unmarked doors at Mercer Hotel side door, take freight elevator down, open and close two sets of doors, venture through chilled wine cellar hallway, open another door ... and there you are. You do have a reservation, right? Exclusive booze pit hidden beneath Mercer Kitchen. Three low, little, brick-clad rooms. Red banquettes with matching stripper pole, lovely for shrooming socialites. Drinks don't come cheap, but then generally neither does sidling up to supermodels and their dads—er, boyfriends.

It doesn't really get much better than this!

By far the best new "speakeasy" in the city. The clandestine trail through the underbelly of the Mercer really sets the tone for a haunting and incredible space, great tunes and an aesthetically superior crowd. My new favorite spot, should I manage to routinely breach the door on subsequent visits.
