The Portman Ritz-Carlton's dowdy Tea Garden restaurant closed early in 2008 - but nobody quite expected the style, sophistication and modernity of its replacement, Tables. This classy restaurant is dressed with polished hardwood floors, large mirrors, purple and blue drapes, moody lighting and private alcoves. The open-kitchen buffet features a daily lunch and dinner selection of western dishes, carved meats, salads and a seafood bar, plus Shanghainese and pan-Chinese favorites. The weekend brunch offers free-flow champagne. Being a hotel, prices are not cheap - but for power diners and free-spending splurgers, this is a premium option.
