After a childhood spent working on his father's carnitas trucks, Jose De Loera has completed a rite of passage, opening the doors to his own Mexican restaurant. Low-key Taqueria on Austin's East Side features a backyard sandbox, complete with beach chairs and fire pits for lounging. Standard Mexican dishes include tortas with pork al pastor, and ceviche with shrimp, in addition to staple tacos, just like dad used to make 'em. Fresh squeezed juices and specialty drinks -- try the white sangria -- are best enjoyed during Happy Hour.
