Tape

Editorial Review

Determined hipsters hike from Berlin's main train station down a lifeless road to reach this inspired electro warehouse. Dance floor sprouts enormous makeshift tree of 2x4s threatening sudden collapse, with elevated seating to watch the carnage, or for impromptu make-out sessions. Upstairs, silver ensconced lounge gets hot with bodies seeking refuge from throngs below. Live gigs, art exhibitions of Tape Modern fame and myriad Kultur events make good use of adjoining massive hangar space. House mixed with hip-hop and other forgotten genres keeps the program fresh for younger generations tired of Minimal's worn-out monopoly on Berlin's nightlife.
