Historic hotel in historic locale provides direct access to Boston Common, Theater District and shopping mecca Newbury Street. Stately hotel lobby and facade straddles line between ornate palace and Hollywood version of “nice hotel.” Rooms aren't as ideal, but bargains can be had. Smaller, and less luxuriant than you'd think. Nearly 1,000 rooms and dozens of function spaces keep the place buzzing with conventioneers, tourists and business dudes on the go. Spotty internet service. Afternoon tea adds touch of class.
