Thanks to its appearance in a traditional British nursery rhyme (‘Up and down the City Road, in and out The Eagle’), this pub, just off, erm, the City Road, is one of the most famous in the country. It’s dark, wood-bedecked interior is spacious enough for most punters to find a seat; there’s also an atmospheric heated beer garden. Try the tapas-with-a-twist snacks, perfect for soaking up the booze. With ‘time at the bar’ called at 1am, you’ll need it.
