If anything represented hedge fund profligacy, it was the nouveau-aristo decadence of Biltmore Room, Chelsea's now-defunct restaurant. You have to admire the chutzpah of New York nightlife shakers Danny Kane and Rod Surut to not just reopen the space, but to take it up a notch. Still flaunting those extravagantly baroque interiors (including the magnificent art deco phone booth), Gates will now be divided to feature an exclusive party space and a swank eatery complete with crisis-defying VIP lounge.
