The Maidstone, quiet and stately as it once was, has changed restaurants on its premises the way a Gabor sister changes husbands (and in fact the whole inn has been made over in exuberant Scandinavian tones). The latest kitchen entrant slows the pace a little, in more ways than one. Chef James Carpenter brings "a slow food dining experience" of carefully sourced local ingredients prepared in conscientious manner, and eaten at a leisurly pace. The fun and virant decor makes this a place you won't mind hanging out in for while.
