The Palms

Editorial Review

This flashy, Miami-style casino outpost for the twentysomething generation has been the backdrop of numerous reality shows ranging from MTV's Real World to The Surreal Life and Inked. Pam, Paris, and Snoop are all regulars at this party palace, which features a multi-level, cabana-lined pool complex, penthouse nightclubs, and restaurants from hot celebrity chefs. Casino owner and swinging bachelor George Maloof takes a hands-on interest in his property and can sometimes be spotted slipping into a VIP booth. The Palms draws an odd mix of local slot machine jockeys and the young, pretty, and entitled to its casino, although they tend to sort themselves out among the poker rooms, high-limit lounge, and nickel machines. Most of the Palms' entertainment comes from the beach, the nightlife, and the people watching, although it also hosts events such as the CineVegas Film Festival, Bravo's Celebrity Poker Showdown, and Hugh Hefner's birthday weekend. The spa offers 'party prep' facials and "morning after massages," as well as the in-house Amp Salon. Guest rooms are smallish but have comfortable beds, flatscreen TVs, and Davies Gate toiletries, not that the guests here spend much time in their rooms anyway. The Palms' celebrated fantasy suites--featured on the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards--are individually designed with basketball courts, DJ booths, infinite pools, or stripper poles according to theme.
