Smoke-filled rooms also literal until quite recently. History demands premium rates. Imperial lobby birthed "lobbyist", whose descendants inhabit flawless upstairs suites. Top floors though, reserved for A-list celebs and the political fundraisers who love them. Two-ton chandeliers and irreplaceable carpets dusted by the white-gloved hands of the Intercontinental folks.
