Greenwich, where the Cutty Sark is on prominent display and the naval college dominates the waterfront, couldn’t exude more maritime atmosphere if it donned a pirate’s hat and made you walk the plank. The Trafalgar, a gorgeous, river-overlooking Dickensian pub in which tourists and locals mingle over pints of bitter and plates of high-quality pub grub, continues this theme. The interior – oak floorboards and bar, open fires, oil paintings of long-dead admirals – is as atmospheric as a film set.
