Opened in 1979 as a modest storefront, W&CF became the first and only feminist bookstore in Chicago. Carrying over 30,000 titles by and for women, this shop has since become more of a movement than just a bookstore. Hosting events and drawing authors like Jhumpa Lahiri, Isabelle Allende and Annie Leibowitz, the female spirit is strong and the customers loyal. Educational classes, whole wall for GLBT books, a decent selection of erotica make this community-driven store a must-stop for any empowered woman.
