Even before the arrival of H&M, Zara, the ever-aggrandizing apparel chain, had been giving local chains G2000 (owned by a legislator) and Esprit something to worry about, taking a big chunk of the market for affordable work wear. It makes considerably more stylish and comfortable clothes at slightly higher prices, so no wonder. But the HK work fashion industry had one last hope—that Zara’s sizes wouldn’t fit us smaller, skinnier Asians. And guess what? The shoe fits. So do the jeans, the skirts, the dresses and the suits. Hiya, globalization.
