New York Irish Bars For Everybody, From the Classy to the ... Slightly Less Classy

compiled by Victor Ozols
It's St. Patrick's Day. Or maybe you missed it. Either way, New York is an ideal place to get your Irish on outside the mother country. But, although they share the same DNA, no two Irish pubs are exactly alike. Let us help you choose the rail that's right for you with this selection of pubs tailored to your personality type. If you get there first, order us a Kilbeggan and a pint of the Genius, please.

McSorley's

Ideal for: Former fraternity dudes and sorority chicks with a minor interest in history and major interest in cheap beer.
Editorial Review
Ancient tavern where everybody's double-fisting it. House beer comes in light or dark, two mugs at a time. Cool because it's classic, no thanks to the crowd. Tanked fratboys in several exciting varieties of white hat and sneaker, with Irish transplants over sixty-five on the perimeter. Sawdusted floors, dust-encrusted wishbones. Ladies, this place wouldn't even let you in well into the 1970s, and then only by court order. Look what you were missing out on!
