imageMove over Craigslist -- Roomorama is about to cramp your style. The idea is simple: rooms in private homes (or apartments) are made available for short-term stays, circumventing sky-high hotel prices. Not a new concept, but the execution is top-notch; each listing is vetted, photographed, and easy to navigate. Rooms are searchable by amenities such as net access, pool, parking, number of beds, and pets. All communication and payments are made through the site, and anonymity is made easy with screen names. Prices are on the moderate side. A one-bedroom near Central Park on the UES (72nd and 3rd) is listed for $216 a night, while a two-bedroom carriage house in Brooklyn is listed for $189 (includes washer-dryer and wifi!). Boston, Chicago, and Toronto are new to the site, so expect those city listings to multiply in the next few months.
