I don't believe it for a second.
I love me some Jenna Lyons. J.Crew is a brand I actually shop at, now that she's the creative director, instead of a brand that embodies the worst of Westport, Connecticut. Perhaps she's just being humble, but I guffawed reading the New York Times Styles profile in Lyons in which she says about herself:
“I am totally an outsider. I am so not an insider, and that is O.K. I might feel like one in very particular moments. But I don’t feel the same pressure I did when I was young to be part of the club. I’m not one of the cool kids, and that is totally fine.”
Sure, maybe she doesn't feel like a cool kids. But cool kids get awarded Glamour's Woman Of The Year Award alongside Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Cool kids are photographed with Iris Apfel and Solange Knowles. Cool kids are the ones who inspire a small army of catalog models who dress just like her. Cool kids create clothes worn by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Well, the Times does describe her as "pathologically modest."
