Stilt-walkers, musicians, and tattoo artists abounded at Day II of the Rock n' Roll Circus at Damrosch Park, Lincoln Center. Like the first day of the Circus, it was a completely singular event, and slightly bigger than the first night. The 40,000-square-foot tents, previously used for Fashion Week, were filled not only musicians but aerialists, acrobats, and circus horses. Big Apple Circus performances were integrated into the musical acts, which included sets by luminaries of the progressive music scene like Amazing Baby, Saint Motel, Aska with Nick Zinner (from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Ariel Pink.

Maybe it’s because their songs owe a great debt to the Stone Roses and Frank Zappa, or perhaps it’s because all five of them have long, messy hair, but Amazing Baby, the Brooklyn-based heirs apparent to MGMT, have been pigeonholed as “drugged-out nudist hippies”—even before the release of their debut album.
