Taylor Swift

● Turns out Taylor Swift won't be playing Eponine in Les Miserables after all, as the role has been won by British actress Samantha Banks. Guess last week's London trip, purported to be for rehersals, was all about that dinner with Gwenyth and Chris. [JustJared]

Thought Alec Baldwin’s Words With Friends/American Airlines scandal was over? Well, you’ve clearly underestimated our collective attention span when it comes to iPhone app-related jet way disturbances. TMZ reports that Wegmans, the Rochester, New York-based supermarket chain, had pulled holiday ads featuring Baldwin after they received complaints from a handful of customers. Now Wegmans has apologized and decided it will run the ads after even more people complained than the original complainers. Hopefully this whole ordeal will be sorted out by 2013.

rock of ages

Surely those who are fans of '80s hairbands aren't who you'd expect to be checking out a Broadway matinee on a Saturday afternoon. But that didn't stop the creative team behind Rock of Ages, however, from creating a jukebox musical full of songs by Journey, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, Poison, among others. The frontman of Twisted Sister, Dee Snider, even spent a few months performing in the show last year. It's a bona fide hit, and has been running continuously since April 2009. Katy Perry SNL

You sort of never know how SNL will go when a musician plays host.  Katy Perry seemed nervous at first, but managed to pull through and get some laughs.  She got help from Matt Damon and Val Kilmer in a hilarious Digital Short, but the best part of the night belonged to Alec Baldwin who turned up on Weekend Update as the American Airlines pilot  who had him removed from his flight earlier this week.

Alec Baldwin, a prolific celebrity Twitter user, has shut down his account after stirring up some trouble yesterday when he was booted from an American Airlines flight. He claimed he was just trying to play Words With Friends, when the rude flight attendants told him to stop. He then proceeded to bash the airline on Twitter, and promoted rival United Airlines for a few hours. The whole affair was very retweet-worthy, and good fodder for gossip blogs. Even though the plane was standing still at the gate, was Baldwin in the wrong? Could it be possible that a much-loved famous person with a previous history of rude behavior and a short temper is actually not a very nice guy after all?

Miss Piggy

● Fox Business News has challenged the Muppets to a debate. "Froggy, Miss Piggy, if you wanna debate this any time, I'm all for it," the network's Eric Bolling offered on his show yesterday. He might want to think twice before engaging so closely with the enemy. [Huff Post]

Do you know what Sunday's Emmys could’ve used? A really good joke about phone-hacking. It would have cemented the ceremony’s place in the pantheon of legendary Emmys nights, along with the celebrated 39th Emmy Awards when Bob Newhart performed the Heimlich maneuver on Bruce Willis, saving the Moonlighting star’s life. (Don’t look for that story on the Internet - it’s a well-guarded Hollywood secret). The agonizing thing is that the Emmys had a phone-hacking joke, but Fox pulled the plug on it.
