It's usually nightlife that inspires a guy or gal to get made up, but this is makeup inspired by nightlife. Illamasqua, a cult favorite amongst beauty junkies, club kids, makeup artists, and celebs, was conceived amidst the dark drama of 1920s Berlin -- embraced by alternative cultures, made by a British brand, and now readily available to help you develop your nightlife alter ego. I decided to try the pigment-rich rockstar colors for Friday night's festivities, which included Mark Ronson's Gucci party at the Bowery Hotel, followed by "Whipped," Butter's hipster dance party, to find out first hand why Sienna Miller, Lily Allen, Beth Ditto, and Karen O. are rumored to be obsessed with it.

Sometimes as certain trends in fashion -- ones that baffle those outside the industry as well as within -- are worth putting the spectacle of worldwide hot-messery on hold for a moment. If only to speculate on the origins of said trend. And while TriKap walk-of-shamers and Britney Spears have invariably found themselves sans pants at some point or other, neither really made an intentional habit of upending stylistic decorum as we know it. Even in 2007, The Gossip siren Beth Ditto pulled a similar fashion coup; but the earliest adopter for the look appeared to be none other than Brechtian punk cabaret queen Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls.

Disappointingly, Beth Ditto and company’s follow-up to Standing in the Way of Control favors formula over originality. All the key Gossip elements—Ditto’s demanding tenor, clanking guitars, hard-kicking drum and high-hat accompaniment—are in place, but the spirit has been micromanaged: Music for Men is Gossip, tamed.

Images from The Gossip frontwoman and recently minted fashion icon Beth Ditto's capsule collection for Brit retailer Evans have finally arrived. And, fortunately, it looks as though Ditto has taken the new venture in stride, nailing her debut designing effort. Not surprisingly, the collection is heavy on sequins and 80s-inspired silhouettes and styles (Ditto has never exactly been one for demure clothing). The line is slated to hit stores on July 9 (both online and in the UK) and will include a corset dress and motorcycle jacket, as well as a handful of mini-dresses in graphic prints, a jersey romper worn oversized that hangs off the shoulder, and a knit dress with polka dots and half of the profile of a woman's face that's sure to be one of the collection's biggest hits.

Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto won’t solely be making waves in the fashion world come spring by gracing the cover of Love, the not-yet-released Condé Nast newbie that boasts Pop's Katie Grand at its helm. According to Grazia, the outspoken, infinitely revered singer will dabble in design thanks to a partnership with Brit brand Evans. The line in question, which includes “‘80s-inspired ... oversized T-shirts, studded handbags, colorful graphic dresses with domino prints and oversized knitwear,” is slated to hit stores this July.
