There’s always something to do in the city that never sleeps (according to the community boards). Just because there is, it doesn’t mean you have to do it. On many summer nights, it’s a long walk with the gal and puppies to 16 Handles and a bench in Abe Lebewohl Park. My journey takes me by Continental , where I pay my respects to my old friend Trigger. These days, most operators are scrambling to sell bottles for 500 bucks. Trigger has gone to the other extreme offering 5 shots of hard liquor for $10. He's familiar to many in the scene as an old school player and saloon keeper. He wears a Vietnamese rice farmer's hat and is often seen at the places to be seen. Back in the day, he hung with the legends, including my friend Arthur Weinstein. Trigger organized the always hilarious club softball league. My memory says that it was Lotus that brought in Yankee all-star Dave Winfield or somebody like that for the finals. They said he was a bouncer. I went to tell Trigger about the World Club reunion on August 9th and ask him a few questions about cheap booze, fast women, and days of yore.
