Last night's 2011 Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize involved two hours of intense deliberation by an elite group of judges that included international fashion writer Derek Blasberg, Calvin Klein Collection women's creative director Francisco Costa, and Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo. Their job was to narrow down a list of 77 highly qualified candidates and select five finalists to compete for the grand prize, which includes $40,000 and the opportunity to display their collection during Paris Fashion Week in 2012 at Hôtel Plaza Athénée.

Supermodel Natalia Vodianova, who celebrated her 28th birthday yesterday, was "discovered" at age 15, around the same time she was selling fruit on the streets of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia to make money for her poverty-stricken family. I say "discovered" because the ambitious young girl had actually enrolled in a modeling academy, where she became conversational in English—at the request of a model scout—in under three months. At 17, Vodianova signed with Viva Models in Paris, pursuing a career that would come to include contracts with Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent. Aside from occasional red-carpet appearances and ad campaigns, what's she up to now?

Do you remember the first time you saw this commercial? I was only in grade school when the iconic CK One campaign first came out, but that didn't stop me from swapping out just about every colorful item in my closet for a new muted palette to express the teenage angst I wasn't actually feeling yet. The unisex fragrance encapsulated the look and smell of a generation, bringing you back to wherever you were in the '90s with just one whiff. If you, too, haven't quite forgotten that defining scent, then the fact that Calvin Klein is launching a new lifestyle collection under the CK One label is major.

When it comes to fashion, I’m more about buying something I love versus going for only name brands. I mix everything: vintage, high-end, and inexpensive. I think it’s a good habit for any savvy shopper. And who doesn’t love a great bargain? I’m yet to meet a woman who just absolutely loves paying retail. Just go into any Loehmann’s and you’ll see numerous women shopping around wearing a Harry Winston ring toting the latest Chloé bag. A low price tag doesn’t necessarily equate to low quality. There’s so much shopping greatness to be had in the $50-and-under range. So I’ve dug up a few quality items that look like they cost way more than $50—like this ModCloth tiered lace skirt for just $49.99. I think you may fall in love with them and I’m certain they will keep your pockets full.

I remember specifically where I was when I first saw the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 campaign featuring Raquel Zimmermann. Sprawled across a huge billboard above the McQueen boutique in LA, the vivid colors and striking details were so enchanting that I immediately pulled over, got out of my car, and walked up as close as I could to get a better look. It was just so beautiful and still gives me chills to this day, especially now that the designer is no longer with us. But McQueen's art will live on forever, and it's campaigns like these that capture the pinnacle of fashion just right, reminding us why we love this industry so damn much. And while not all 2010 fashion campaigns had as much impact, there were definitely a handful that hit it out of the park. Fashion Gone Rogue has done an ace job of rounding up the best of the best spring/summer and fall/winter campaign ads, which you can see here and here. Check out our absolute favorites after the jump.

You know the face. You've seen the Miu Miu campaign. That pout and that furrowed brow have graced the pages of Vogue Paris (twice, including the cover) and walked shows in New York and Europe for the likes of Calvin Klein (whom she opened for), Prada, and Jil Sander. She also appeared in the exclusive Givenchy haute couture show in the fall. All this before her 16th birthday. Daphne Groeneveld of Union Models is beautiful, Dutch, and one of the most in-demand models of 2010. Other than that, she leads the life of any other 15-year-old who says things like, "I love wearing jeans," and "right now I’m obsessed with passing my school exams."
