Lots to talk about in sunglasses lately! We don’t intend to encourage this trend, but Converse is teaming up with REM Eyewear to produce glow-in-the-dark shades, currently available in two styles. After a long day of partying in the sun, be the life of the party as your glowing shades light up the night. Right now the frames come in two unisex styles: the Half Stack (similar to an aviator) and the Lineup (pictured). During the day, the frames are a nicely frosted white with the signature Converse star at the temples.

Boston beat us to the punch with the opening of the first-ever Converse retail store on Newbury Street last month, but on Black Friday, the sneaker giant will unveil its largest specialty store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The revamped, 7,000 sq-ft. space at Prince Street and Broadway will boast the largest selection of Converse kicks under one roof, anywhere across the globe. Sneakerheads can officially designate this as their one-stop shop to track down any existing Converse line, including the staple Chuck Taylor All-Stars, Star Chevron, One Star, Jack Purcell, Converse by John Varvatos, and upcoming special releases. And of course, as you should expect from the largest Converse store in the world, there will be a special sneaker customization lab in the back.

There is a sizable contingent of people in this city (me included) who will wear Converses all year long. I don’t care if it’s raining, snowing, or 30 below; some days I just can’t be burdened to wear any other shoes. Seemingly in response to this ill-advised habit, Converse today unveiled a design from their 2010 Japan line. Replacing the classic canvas with tweed and adding horn-tooth toggles to the uppers, this shoe is a duffle coat for your feet. Pair with tall wool socks and your feet will be cozy all winter.

The very same week that an ad campaign shot by Todd Selby (the photog behind the perfectly-lit home invaders image series housed on the blog, The Selby) for Converse has dropped, a completely different kind of marketing stint over at Helmut Lang HQ has hit the blogosphere by way of Mark "The Cobrasnake" Hunter's party photo porthole. The differences, though subtle, are huge when it comes to the distinct ways with which brands are approaching advertising via bloggers. Selby's campaign for Converse's Jack Pucell's for the most part looks like your average shoe campaign: the toe of the iconic sneakers double as the mouths of good-looking twenty-somethings whose not-so-aesthetically-appealing fictional abodes provide each image's backdrop. Yes, there are hints of the Selby here, but for the most party the ad feels like just that.

Converse is one of the most collaboration-happy brands out there. Never one to shy away from artists, designers or general creative partnerships, the classic shoe has been reincarnated countless times. But with its latest series of collaborations, the iconic kick is upping the ante and forging some distinctly high-fashion territory. "As a farewell to esteemed Tokyo brand Number (N)ine, Converse recently teamed up with the now-defunct label for a final covetable collaboration," says Cool Hunting.

Men's fashion is really hitting its stride with artist and designer collaborations this fall. Just yesterday I posted on Michael Stipe teaming up with Maison Martin Margiela, as well as John Bartlett and Alex Carlton's soon-to-debut collaboration. Now comes news that both musician Pharell Williams (no stranger to fashion or furniture design) is teaming with iconic French fashion brand Moncler, while avant-garde artist Terrence Koh is partnering up with Converse. Williams is following in the footsteps of quite a few designers (Thom Browne has designed a capsule collection for Moncler in the past, as has Visvim, a Japanese streetwear brand), designing a special edition of men’s jackets. "The all-black lineup will make its debut for fall 2010 and includes a 'pacifist' version of the bulletproof jacket, with Velcro-ed side slits, reversible matte/shiny down vests and elongated puffers," says Women's Wear Daily.
