Dior Homme San Francisco

Things have certainly seemed slightly less fabulous since the heady days of Hedi, but Kris Van Assche has, one must admit, been a formidable successor, and as they say, the glamour must go on. This spectacular new Dior Homme boutique in San Francisco joins already existing, freestanding DH stores in New York and Beverly Hills, but it nevertheless has the scale of a flagship.

You know that strain of fragrance ads that depicts impossibly high-cheek-boned models brooding against the toniest of tony backdrops? Guy Ritchie has succeeded in crafting the moving apotheosis of those ads with his new short film for Dior Homme. It stars Jude Law as the rich, brooding every-handsome, and it finally solves the mystery of what the “characters” in all those print ads have supposedly been up to—playing sex games.

I just got back from a marathon of photoshoots on the West Coast and am very excited about the work we did out there. L.A. and the surrounding areas are chock-full of great locations to shoot in. I'm not sure if it's the air out there or the variety of picturesque environments, but I was feeling very inspired. So much so, that I wanted to share this sneak peak of a menswear shoot we did out in Palm Springs. Yes, we were in the middle of the desert in 120 degree weather, but even heat stroke couldn't stop us from capturing some really strong images.

Just back from the menswear shows in Europe and feeling very inspired. I started in Florence for Pitti Uomo, made my way to Milan, and then on to Paris. I even managed a week of R&R in Greece, which left me feeling centered and ready for work again. It's a good thing, too, because the videos I am about to present to you took blood, sweat, and tears to download! Needless to say, I'm not the most tech savvy blogger, but I am working on it. (Move over BryanBoy!) Before I left, I invested in a new Flip camera so I could bring a little bit of the collections back home to share. So, without further adieu—and with apologies for my unsteady hand—here are some of my favorite snippets from the shows.

On Saturday, the Dior Homme show took place in a giant warehouse with an impressively designed set: gauzy white fabric walls spiraled into a maze the models walked through before appearing on a circular runway, marching to brooding beats. The whole thing made for an intense dramatic effect, but if the mood was dark, the clothing was all about lightness. Designer Kris Van Asche's latest collection for the sleek menswear label was about deconstruction, unlined wool jackets draped into billowing forms that hit the floor, suits seemed to be made from air, and tanks and shirts were cutaway to reveal a little skin.

Sometimes life isn't fair. Take, for instance, the idea of editor's picks. When fashion editors offer up their favorite picks for the season, it's usually non-fashion editors who are reading about it. But nobody ever asks the non-fashion editors for their go-to products—which is why fashion blogging is so popular, I gather. I digress. Since I am the only beauty editor in the room, I could just ask myself for my own picks and let everyone else I work with, who seem to use personal hygiene and beauty products on a daily basis, share their favorites on their own blogs, but what good is one opinion? Besides, I've Googled everyone I work with and can't seem to find their personal beauty blogs, so I decided to ask them to share their summer staples, because they look damn good. Their responses are pretty helpful. Especially Ben Barna's.

Attention skinny jean-loving ladies of the world: Dior Homme is finally launching women's denim. The French fashion brand's men's division has made a name for itself in recent seasons thanks to its uber-slim silhouettes and its even slimmer denim. Keep in mind former Dior Homme creative director Hedi Slimane's skinny jeans were, according to the Kaiser himself, the leading catalyst for Karl Lagerfeld's drastic weight loss -- he wanted to fit in them.
