The Vice-fueled and Intel-funded digital arts behemoth known as The Creators Project has scored another coup, recruiting indie stalwarts Interpol to their stable. Interpol will be helping out with The Studio, a creative grants program launched last month. Of course, that's not all they're up to.

Miami’s a wild place. It has been since long before Julia Tuttle made it a city, and I suspect it will be as long as it exists. In the ‘20s, carpet-baggers came down by the thousands and flooded the streets with useless land deeds; their counterparts did likewise throughout the Oughts, running our real estate right back into the ground. In between there were the Cocaine Cowboys of the ‘70s, the Marielitos of the ‘80s, and a swarm of models and bohos who saved South Beach from oblivion in the ‘90s. But we’re not here for a history lesson. We’re here to hear what’s what right now, up close and of the moment, whether it’s the latest South Beach swankery, the newest place to get your grub on, or the most with-it visualist in Wynwood. That’s where I come in. My job (if you can call it a job) is to be where the action is, smack in the center of the scrum—and to be coherent enough to report back what I saw. And while my coherence might sometimes be in question, it’s a privileged position, one that I don’t take lightly no matter how weightless the encounter. So from here on out, in this very space, I’ll be doing my very best to keep the reportage as lucid and as timely as possible.

It was hot on Saturday afternoon when people started lining up to claim their wristbands for Creators Project, an all-day celebration of art and technology hosted by Intel and Vice at New York's Milk Studios. There was a sea of anxious party-goers, and for all of the obvious reasons, I was expecting to hate the event, much like every other detestable summer festival. But this one was different. Ten reasons why after the jump.

All right, wow—WOW—someone please tell me what is going on here. Interpol has just released the video for a promo song, 'Lights,' off of their upcoming album Interpol, yes. Duh! I am not foolish. What I am asking is, why does their video for this song essentially consist of five minutes and eleven seconds of a scrubbed down, injected, latex-clad woman bleeding white liquid from her mouth into a collection vat? That's a reasonable question, right? I'm not stepping over any lines, am I? You be the judge!

Ever since the short-lived dream of All Points West died, New Yorkers have been waiting for someone or something to stand up and deliver a summer music lineup worthy of their esteemed tastes. Leave that to Vice, who, in partnership with Intel, launched the Creators Project. To celebrate the launch, they've put together an all killer, no filler lineup for an event at Milk Studios. The building takeover goes down on June 26, with sets by Interpol, Mark Ronson, Gang Gang Dance, The Raptrue, Sleigh Bells, Die Antwoord, Neon Indian, Salem, and very special guests. That's not to mention DJ sets by XXXChange, Golden Filter, and others, with short films by Spike Jonze, Animal Collective, and more. Oh, and it's all free with registration, which, guess what, is now open.

As the charismatic sticks figure for iconic New York band Interpol, the 39-year-old drummer has often been relegated to the back of the stage. Now, with Magnetic Morning, he's ready for the bright lights.
