Downtown types hunting for a cheap meal and canned beer won't usually seek out the lavish Lambs Club to post up for the night, but it's quite nice when Rémy Martin invites a few of those below-14th denizens (we're getting far too used to those PBRs) to enjoy a perfectly curated, ludicrously luxurious evening with some true ladies and gents uptown. Last week, I was lucky to attend a so-called "intimate dinner" with Rémy Martin 1738, Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men's Pete Campbell), and the lovely Janie Bryant, who's responsible for Mad Men’s award-winning costume design. Just in time for Mad Men's stellar season 3 finale, Esquire has enlisted the help of the show's illustrious costume designer (who has since branched out into fashion design as well) for her tips on vintage shopping for men. Janie Bryant, the woman arguably behind the resurgence of 60s styles in fashion. Bryant offers tips from buying vintage suits to tie clips. Of suits, Bryant says, "it's all about the fit." Thought you'd heard the last of Mad Men's sway over contemporary fashions? Think again. While talk of the show's 1960 sartorial influence extending as far as Fashion Week's catwalks (think Michael Kors FW08) and countless window displays has somewhat quieted, a new collaboration between the show's costume designer and a classic American brand is sure to reinvigorate the buzz. Janie Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer, has inked a deal with Matchbook Company in order to foster guest design opportunities and licensing. The first such is a collaboration with Brooks Brothers (who has donated numerous suits to the show's wardrobe) on an official Mad Men suit.

It’s no secret that since its debut two seasons ago, AMC’s Mad Men has, sartorially speaking, taken the world by storm. The 60s-era garb sported by the show’s leading men and women has sparked sales of Sterling Cooper-appropriate looks across the board. Not to mention the show's inimitable style has influenced some of the biggest names in the business (Michael Kors and Thom Browne included). The woman responsible for the sensation-inciting looks: costume designer Janie Bryant, whom we interviewed back in September.
