Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy once said that "All the best rock stars come from the gutter and aspire to be sublime. And that’s a great tension, it's very romantic, very glamorous." Whether he knew he was paraphrasing Oscar Wilde or not, Murphy's rather luminous statement could be effortlessly transferred to fashion's only true rock star, Jean Paul Gaultier. Born in the working class Paris suburb of Arcueil, fashion's enfant terrible has always, since his beginnings as an assistant to Pierre Cardin in 1970, had one eye cast towards the gutter and the other gazing up at the stars.

There have been a lot of great things coming out of Opening Ceremony lately (not to mention the fact that it’s one of Donald Glover’s favorite stores), but the year-end sale is what we’ve all been waiting for. If you held out on buying pieces from the highly-coveted Pendleton x Opening Ceremony collection (pictured), you’re in luck—the sale includes many of the best designer collaborations, such as Robert Clergerie and Jean Paul Gaultier. Starting today, the sale is going on at each of the three worldwide retail locations, as well as online. With discounts up to 70% off, the Howard Street and Ace Hotel locations will have extended holiday hours for those of us staying in town over the weekend. As one of the bigger sales of the year, I suggest stocking up on plenty of designer pieces now—you have the rest of the year to settle your credit card debt.

Feeling a bit naughty? Lingerie takes on a whole new designer spin as Jean Paul Gaultier teams with high-end Italian lingerie house La Perla for an exclusive collection, available just in time for the holiday season. The new line comprises of over 20 styles--nearly all handmade--including a waist-cinching corset and bra inspired by the iconic cone bra that the designer created for Madonna. Gaultier is famous for using underwear as outerwear, but this will mark his first lingerie collection. “Lingerie is part of my DNA and of my heritage,” Gaultier said. “In my latest prêt-à-porter collection I revisited the conical bras and corsets worn as outerwear. This collaboration was a natural and logical step, especially since La Perla is the pearl of the lingerie, with the best savoir faire.”

Designer Jean Paul Gaultier's name has been synonymous with undergarments ever since he put the final touches on Madonna's now infamous cone bra two decades ago. Since then, Gaultier has mostly been focusing his talent on what gets layered over ones undergarments, but now, thanks to a new partnership, the French designer is returning to his Material Girl-approved roots. Come November, Gaultier will debut a line of high-fashion lingerie created in collaboration with La Perla. "The new line will comprise 27, styles—nearly all handmade—including a waist-cinching corset and bra inspired by the cone bra that the designer created for Madonna in the Nineties," says Vogue UK.

You know what looks really dope on a dude? A gold, sleeveless turtleneck. Especially when paired with really long hair and big gold bracelets. Or at least designer Rick Owens sure thinks so! His designs weren't the only wackadoo creations strutting down the runways in Milan and Paris this week-- a week dominated by death and apocalyptic imagery. Blood and references to global decay were widespread and remorseless. See for yourself as we round-up the craziest, most unsettling looks from the Milan and Paris.

In perhaps the worst PR move in a while, whoever is managing R&B star Chris Brown let the controversial singer pose alongside a bruised and battered Jean Paul Gaultier at the latter's FW10 fashion show. No, it wasn't some sick parody of Brown's domestic abuse of Rihanna (and the subsequent shot of the bloodied star seen round the world). It was just extremely poor taste. But, all press is good press no? Brown was out in force to promote a new film ("Takers," in which he stars alongside Matt Dillon) and put the word out that he's also interested in getting into the fashion game: "Brown noted he is also open to any propositions in the fashion field, though he would prefer to collaborate with a label rather than launch a full line under his own name." As for Gaultier's show, the clothes at were hit or miss.

Hot on the heels of the release of a blurry camera phone photo of Jean Paul Gaultier's collection with Target yesterday, a proper look book of the collaboration has arrived. Meanwhile, images of Zac Posen's lower-priced line for Target have hit the web. There are definitely plenty of winners in both collections.

BlackBook senior editor Nick Haramis may be one of the biggest beauty junkies I know. He collects more products then he knows what to do with, and he has tried them all. It often goes overlooked, but gents are often more product-savvy (and in many cases, more picky) than gals. Since Haramis has been around the block (the one with a Sephora and a Keihl's), he would know best. This one is for the boys.
