For good reason, Miami is known as a cocaine town. The skyline is built from the stuff. But the girl on everyone mind and in everyone’s cerebral cortex this year was Molly, and she made this one of the most touchy feely, affectionate Basel editions thus far. According to insider Basel sources, everywhere one went, the quest was on to link up with Molly, otherwise known as MDMA, or Ecstasy, or the drug that shut down nightlife as we know it in New York City.

She may be the daughter of former New York nightlife kingpin Peter Gatien—he of Limelight fame—but she’s not content to linger in his shadow. Far from it: With more than a dozen movie-producing credits under her belt, Jen Gatien has made a name for herself.  at doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her roots, though.

Since Limelight opened, I’ve been getting calls. Most think the person who played me was good, although not as handsome as the real me—just kidding. For those not in the know, it’s a documentary and I was me on that screen. I was not the person who used to be Steve Lewis. That person lurks buried inside me as my stint at the University of Pennsylvania, Schuylkill and a whole lot of other learning and calming makes me look back at wonderment that he... was me. I talked to Limelight director, Billy Corben about the movie. I love Billy and think everyone else does too.

Yesterday I spoke about Tavern on the Green honcho Jenny Oz LeRoy, daughter of restaurateur Warner LeRoy and granddaughter of Hollywood legend Mervyn LeRoy (The Wizard of Oz, Little Caesar). Today, my old friend Cameron Douglas, son of Michael, grandson of Spartacus himself Kirk, gets a word or three. News of Cameron's bust for possession with intent to sell large amounts of methamphetamine unfortunately comes as no surprise to those familiar with the troubled kid. That's part of the problem -- he's always thought of as a kid. It's not easy, I guess, being the son and indeed grandson of such mega-stars. The pressures to succeed, to be a star, must be tremendous, yet it seems a lot easier than growing up in some rat-infested tenement with parents who don't have all that much to teach. Now, Cameron faces man-size problems. These are federal drug charges with severe sentencing guidelines, and the weight involved (over 8 ounces) and the allegations and implications that this quantity is the tip of the iceberg speaks of serious jail time. There are reports of a ginormous trust fund of as much as $80 million, so amazing legal counsel will be secured.

I never apologize for anything in life. The only thing I’m sorry about is putting a curse on Roger Ebert’s colon. If a fat pig like Roger Ebert doesn’t like my movie then I’m sorry for him. -- Vincent Gallo
