Washington, DC woke up this morning with one collectively epic hangover. Let’s face it: a five-day-long celebration is kind of overkill. Yes, there were fancy dresses, open bars, and VIPs (Beyonce! Jay Z! John Legend! Some guy from Gossip Girl, maybe!) and enough parties to crush any notions that this is anything like prom.

The category for Best Original Song is always a bit of a mess. The songs are rarely judged on how they good they sound; the importance, of course, is how the song fits into the film for which it was written. This year's nominees are representative of the usual fare. There's the popular choice (Adele's "Skyfall," which will likely win, as it should), the new song for the big-budget musical adaptation (the unnecessary "Suddenly" from Les Misérables), and then there are the forgettable tunes (I didn't even know what Chasing Ice was before today, much less the song from it). It's a shame, really, because there were plenty of good tracks included in the list of 75 eligible songs. Here are a few that probably will have a longer shelf life than "Lullaby for Pi."

For the myriad points of conversation discussed at this weekend's press conference for Quentin Tarantino's latest epic undertaking, Django Unchained, one of the best parts of the film remained to be uncovered: the soundtrack. Whether Tarantino's films always tickle your fancy or not, there's no doubt they can always be sure to perk up the ear drums with tunes that add an extra kick to his bitingly witty and visceral scenes. And Django is no exception. Although the film won't hit theaters until Christmas next week, you can now feast yourself on the music from the film in its entirety. From the spaghetti Western classic sounds of Ennio Morricone to new tracks from John Legend and voice tracks featuring the Christoph Waltz as Dr. Schultz (who I could personally listen to speak on loop forever) and Jamie Foxx as Django—the soundtrack is a fantastic mix that harken's back to Tarantino's own musical affinities for sounds of past. In addition to the this cornucopia of soulful and twangy songs, you can also check out a full 12-minutes of B-roll footage of behind the scenes action. Enjoy.

Legend

It's Bruce Springsteen Week at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, but because the Boss is the Boss, he need not always be there to receive the show's love. Last night, Bruce took a night off from performing so John Legend took to the stage to perform a cover of "Dancing in the Dark" from the landmark Born in the U.S.A. album. Backed by the Roots, Legend turns Springsteen's '80s cheese into lounge jazz, closer to a YouTube original than a rock n' roll showdown. But hey, it sounds pretty great. Watch it after the click, via Prefix.

Rick Ross, professional security guard and sometimes coke rapper, has just released a new song off of his upcoming Teflon Don album and—guess what?—it features Jay-Z, former professional drug dealer, and John Legend, former professional management consultant. Quality tune for sure—the beat is excellent, rich, and I'm loving that he's on this old-school-at-this-point soul shit. Ross and Jay sound hungry. Legend does his thing too. But one question must be asked.
