The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips 2002 Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is inarguably one of their best works.  The album has now been made into a play allowing the main character to add one more thing to her resume along with working for the city, being a black belt in karate, and defeating evil machines.

Jason Russell Kony

Things just went from crazy-WTF-bizarre to just plain sad.  Jason Russell, the director of the viral "Kony 2012" video, went berserk yesterday, running through the streets of San Diego in his tighty whiteys, masturbating in public and banging the pavement while naked on a street corner.  Drugs were the obvious suspect behind his behavior, but now his family is stepping forward with another reason.

The Shins

The Shins make the kind of music that you listen to over and over and over and yet it was easy to forget about them entirely since their last album, Wincing the Night Away, was released all the way back in 2007.  Needless to say, anticipation for James Mercer and crew’s Port of Morrow is high.  They’ve already released “Simple Song,” “September,” and “The Rifle’s Spiral,” and now comes yet another song.  Below, take a listen to “Bait and Switch.” Filmed in their studio, clapping butter is not included.

Lindsay Lohan SNL

After a week of buildup Lindsay Lohan took the stage for SNL.  She did…ok.  Not great, but not terrible.  She had some trouble remembering her lines, but it was more the material she was given or rather not given to work with.  She seemed to have less lines than most hosts and the sketches just weren’t that funny, especially when given the endless well of things they could have chosen to make fun of.  There weren't any cocaine or party sketches, but there were a few winners and a great performance by Jack White.

Dr Seuss Seven Lady Godivas

Yesterday was the 108th anniversary of the birth of everyone’s favorite rhyming children’s book author, Dr. Seuss. Classes partook in celebration, conservatives continued to slam The Lorax for its supposed anti-capitalist agenda, and Dr. Seuss quotes clogged up Tumblr. Everyone knows the story of the Grinch and the Cat and the Hat.  Less known, is his adult book full of naked ladies.
