Remember Gant? Probably not. It's a men's wear brand that launched in New Haven in 1949 and enjoyed its heyday in the '60s. And now? Now, it's back, having hired designer Michael Bastian as its new creative director. Bastian's been making fashion-forward work wear for his own namesake men's wear label for eight seasons now, and will have his Gant debut at New York Fashion Week next month.

Casual Fridays might be doomed to be a long and lazy weekend. You can thank Julian Schnabel, as he's ushered in pajamas as the new sleeper fashion wear. Dudes are wearing Hef silks in public! This week, designers Phillip Lim, Michael Bastian, and Tim Hamilton will unveil pajama-inspired clothes meant to be worn in broad daylight. (Last year, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Giorgio Armani dipped into the same genre.) Tyler Thoreson of Men's Style says, "If you really wanted to deconstruct it, you could say buried in there is some kind of commentary on our overworked, sleep-starved culture." But even then, he says he can't envision overworked, sleep-starved professionals wearing pajamas out in public.

Turning their attention curbside, fashion and pop culture notables are getting down and dirty for charity. “Have you ever walked by the back of a restaurant at night?” asks fashion designer Michael Bastian. “It’s insane how much food goes to waste, those huge garbage bins full of stuff.” Waste and its whiff of economic imbalance led Bastian, the creative director of menswear atBill Blass, to partner with Danish design company Vipp, creating a one-off receptacle inspired by the current varsity theme of his eponymous line. “It’s a big, sexy football trashcan,” he reveals.
