"It was very much a larger-than-life, surreal experience"

Swiss watchmaker OMEGA has launched their new flagship boutique inside the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills shopping destination, the Beverly Center. More than just a mall, the Beverly Center has become the target location for other luxury brands, like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Henri Bendel, and, most recently, Fendi (who hosted a star-studded launch event a few months back). "The Beverly Center was an obvious choice for our new flagship, as they offer some of the best brands under one roof. We're in good company," OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart tells BlackBook. The 1,600-square-foot boutique hosts the brand's complete product palette, including their new line of mechanical watches, the Ladymatic (pictured above, with more styles here), which Nicole Kidman is the face of. The Ladymatic pieces may be visually stunning, but there's so much more to it. "We're not a fashion brand. We're less focused on trend, and more interested in the presence of functionality, which has always been our goal," explains Urquhart. "Wearing an OMEGA watch is like wearing a piece of art and history on your wrist. It's something that you should keep forever."

I took an oath last weekend when I signed my name on a vaguely threatening contract provided by The Weinstein Company, assuring them I wouldn't review or discuss the contents of Nine, their musical extravaganza and last-ditch effort at Oscar glory, until they lifted the so-called "emabrgo." Normally these embargoes are gentlemen's agreements between you and the studio's publicity arm. They show you their movie early, and you write about it when they say you can. If you break that agreement, then you won't get invited back, or in the case of Nine, you might get sued! Right now, the opinions on the movie is swimming around in the heads of about 150 members of the press, with only the date of November 26th (I think) able to set them free. And since I can't share details about the film itself, I'll let you in on something almost as major--it's press day.

She speaks! Nicole Kidman speaks! She emits such lasery vitriol too, setting her sights on the gilded hills of Hollywood. Star of such films as Flirting and Malice and also famously known as "Stephen's Girlfriend on the Phone" in the 2002 film Panic Room, Kidman alleges that Hollywood is singlehandedly advocating violence against women. Err, wasn't she the one that starred in Dogville where her character is beaten up, raped, and tortured? Well then.

While us unworthy regular people do such silly things as scrape together cash for our monthly rents (or trick their friends into doing so) and otherwise teeter towards homelessness, even the most unfortunate celebrities don't have to consider such a cruel fate. This isn't to say that when the housing market went tits-up, the sun continued shining over celebrity enclaves. Because, as we learn after the break -- for every posh manse, there's a senseless eviction. And of course, heated floors.
