Now that cooler weather has swiftly rolled in, we're having a hard time staying motivated where the gym is concerned. And since it's near impossible to desire breaking a sweat when there's a cozy couch and a bottle of Belvedere close by, we're relying on incentives and personal-reward systems to get the job done. One said incentive is shopping for new workout gear from cool sportswear brands, namely Nike. In fact, Highsnobette revealed that Nike has tapped two female comic book artists to illustrate their "Make Yourself a Superhero" FW11 lookbook – and the results are fantastic.

For all that Curtis Kulig has accomplished, the guy is totally laid back. His iconic "Love Me" tag can be seen all over Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York, even making a cameo during the opening credits of Saturday Night Live. While other street artists choose the road of anonymity, Kulig welcomes the opportunity to get both his name and face out there—especially if it means collaborating with the artists and brands he respects. In addition to working on his photography and collaborative pieces with other well-known artists, he's been able to parlay his street art fame into a presence in the fashion world, most recently linking with Nike Sportswear on a series of limited-edition tees and hoodies for Fashion's Night Out. And although this time around Kulig is going to Art Basel just for fun (and likely to support his many artist friends), I'm sure this rising artist will be one of the main attractions come next year.

News of designer collaborations are sprouting up all over the blogosphere this week. Mulberry for Target hit store racks, sketches from Lanvin x H&M landed on the web, and rumors are swirling that Alexander Wang might be teaming up with Nike sometime soon. Following an unprecedented pre-sale on Gilt Groupe, Mulberry's much-anticipated follow-up collection for Target is officially up for grabs. Perhaps the superstar footballers depicted striving for World Cup glory in Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu's genius mini-movie advertisement for Nike should have worn Adidas instead. So far, they've all been having mediocre-to-straight-up disastrous tournaments: Brazilian Ronaldinho wasn't even called up for the World Cup despite a rebound season for AC Milan; Italy’s Fabbio Cannavaro flopped miserably and failed to lead his team to the second round (an achievement not lost on Italy’s colorful media); England’s Wayne Rooney, who is seen battling France’s Franck Ribery in the Nike spot, was a wash for the Brits, squeaking into the second round by sheer luck of the draw only to suffer a terrifically nasty loss to historic rivals Germany. Time to break out the lawn mower for the burly Rooney.

World Cup excitement is building exponentially, and, while there's tons to be excited about, Nike's new bottle-made jerseys are definitely worth some applause. Gucci isn't the only major fashion brand putting serious efforts into sustainability. Put simply, "Nine World Cup teams are wearing uniforms made out of old plastic bottles—more specifically, bottles from landfills in Japan and Taiwan," says Time. For customers interested in purchasing a bit of sustainable World Cup memorabilia, the jerseys are available for $70 a pop. Who else is turning garbage into garments?

This is World Cup advertising and Homer Simpson usage at its Academy Award-nominated finest. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, Amores Perros) shot Nike's new World Cup spot for their Write the Future campaign which stars the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney (in a trailer park), Fabio Cannavaro, Ronaldinho and Franck Ribéry (sans underage hooker) as well as non footballing talent like Kobe Bryant, Gael Garcia Bernal and Homer Simpson. The star-studded piece is one of the finer bits of advertising that Nike's ever done, and it's by far the top World Cup spot I've seen to date. Watch it below, then compare it to, say, Pepsi's atrocious World Cup ad or any of the other epic, over-the-top Africa-centric ads for the World Cup. Hell it's actually much better than Iñárritu's 21 Grams.
