The only benefit of the lingering recession, as far as I’m concerned, is pop-up bar concepts, now that landlords are ready to lower prices to get some temporary income coming in. This month, Puma got in on the action when the footwear giant managed to temporarily snag a slice of the Sunset Strip. Last night, they lured Jeremy Piven and others to the launch of their Puma Social Club concept inside the old One Sunset space, which has been vacant for over a year. Rent at 8730 Sunset is rumored to be $30,000 a month or more, keeping actual bars or restaurants from opening in the 6,500-square-foot space, but Puma will at least light up the Strip with a few notable events before closing shop on October 28th.

Pink's Hot Dogs in Los Angeles is celebrating 70 years of service this year, and starting November 7, they've got a hell of a deal going on. They've loaded up the little hot dog stand with celebrity workers, all of whom have promised to dish out dogs and take orders for the seven days of the sale. The deal goes like this. For 70 minutes, starting at 7pm each night, hot dogs will go on sale for 70 cents a pop (normally $3.50 each). They're calling this event "Chili Dogs for Charity," and as you can imagine, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of hot dogs sold during the celebration hour (err, 70 minutes) will be donated to the charity of the celebrity’s choice. It's a great way to create a huge fanfare over the seventy years that Pink's has been in service, and when else can you get Bill Cosby or Jason Alexander to take your order? Check the full schedule of celebs after the jump.

Pink's -- the famous hot dog stand with the mile-long line and the skinny franks -- is bringing it to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Good old Tom Bradley is located between terminals 3 and 4, for those of you not intimate with the circular monstrosity that is LAX. The expansion to the airport is a first for Pink's, which is also celebrating its 70th anniversary this November. Though the nine-inch hot dogs are leased out to the Greek Theater, the Hollywood Park Casino, the Los Angeles County Fair, and Planet Hollywood, the airport stand will be only the second full-on dog stand in the city.

Stretch your legs in the sun and have a cocktail (or three). 4 p.m.: Nothing to wear? Head on down to vintage clothing store Jet Rag. Dig through hipster heaven and you might come away with a pair of 70's Frye boots, or a sweet fur shrug. Either way, it's good times.

This morning as I was lying in bed, Epicurious asked me an interesting question. What’s the longest I’ve ever waited in line for something edible? I usually scoff at the masses perennially lined up outside of Grimaldi’s in DUMBO. It's just pizza, after all. And everyone knows the best time to get a slice at Artichoke is when you’re too drunk to notice its scalding cheese is ravaging the roof of your mouth.
