Lauren

Ralph Lauren is one of America's most treasured fashion designers. After serving in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 and working for Brooks Brothers as a salesman, he opened a necktie store in 1967 under the "Polo" label. The rest, as they say, is history. Although 73-year-old Lauren lives on a 17,000-acre private ranch in the Rocky Mountains (don't act like you didn't see that Oprah special), the born and bred New Yorker has contributed to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in a major way.

As we passed small towns, our driver Pete "Roma" announced that he's lived in Telluride for twenty years and, man, the guy did not shut up. Surprisingly, it turned out it was all for the best.

Last Friday, Ralph Lauren’s son David Lauren got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Bush, which could result in the easiest name possible to remember: Lauren Lauren. David proposed to the former model and FEED founder at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is where they met over six years ago while attending Vogue's Costume Institute Gala. Now photos of Lauren's engagement ring have emerged, and it's a stunner. Estimated at three to four carats and $80,000 to $100,000, according to StyleList, the solitaire square-cut ring is classic, traditional, and very American—befitting a Lauren and a Bush. Gaze upon its blinding sparkle, after the jump.

There's no shortage of impossible-to-score tables in Paris's trendiest restaurants this week, but at dinner last night at the new Ralph Lauren restaurant, fittingly called Ralph's, I realized there was no better place to have a table. Ralph's new American-style bistro is located in a garden in the middle of his new massive Paris flagship store in St. Germain (one of the many exquisite rooms inside the Ralph Lauren boutique in St. Germain is above). The atmosphere—and the wait staff—is something to behold, and the food is delicious and satisfying in a way you don't usually associate with fashion week (think: comfort food). And while you might be feeling guilty about eating American fare in Paris, the menu beats any down-home spot on our side of the Atlantic. The crabcake and the burger were outstanding—and I eat a lot of burgers back home.
