The uber twee Zooey Deschanel brought her brand of quirkiness to SNL last night with some funny sketches, including one that lampoons her ukelele playing, sing-songy persona.  Nicolas Cage stopped by Weekend Update and Jean Dujardin brought his tap dancing skills.

Channing Tatum hosted this week’s SNL. He was funny enough but the real highlights of the show came from the musical acts. Kristen Wiig visited Weekend Update as Lana Del Rey to defend the singer’s critically panned performance last week in what will hopefully be the last word on that.  Agreed? Agreed. Bon Iver showed how it’s done live with “Holocene,” and “Beth/Rest.”

Lana Del Rey appeared on SNL last night.  She’s a polarizing figure and why we know her name or why she was asked to be on the show before she’s even released an official album can be debated forever on buzzy music blogs and within every ‘indie’ scene.  But no matter what side you're on in the authenticity argument (or if you just don't care because OMG she’s soooo hot) there is no room for debate: she bombed last night.

● Kristen Stewart has been named the new face of Balenciaga's newest perfume because, as the house's head designer Nicolas Ghesquière says, "she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga." By which he surely means to say, perma-pout or not, at least she's vampire-blooded and sparkle-skinned now. [E!]

Last night was full of nostalgia for SNL fans. During his monolgue, Jimmy Fallon, who was a cast member for six years, revealed it felt like he was coming home.  Raising the holiday spirit and helping the comedian-turned-late-night-host bring back some classic sketches was Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Horatio Sans, Chris Kattan, and Tracy Morgan.

You sort of never know how SNL will go when a musician plays host.  Katy Perry seemed nervous at first, but managed to pull through and get some laughs.  She got help from Matt Damon and Val Kilmer in a hilarious Digital Short, but the best part of the night belonged to Alec Baldwin who turned up on Weekend Update as the American Airlines pilot  who had him removed from his flight earlier this week. 

Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi took the reins of SNL last night, where after a monologue about breaking from his roots as the weirdo character, went right back to them in the best way possible, playing a number of oddballs and freaks. Below are some of the highlights, most which involve fake mustaches.

Katy Perry is no stranger at playing dress-up and acting all a fool. You all remember Kathy Beth Terry, don't you? Well, it was just announced that on December 10, the Teenage Dream singer will get her chance to yuk it up with the big boys when she makes her debut as the host of Saturday Night Live.
