Boards of Canada

We had a feeling that Tomorrow’s Harvest, the hotly anticipated new album from Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada, would be a dark affair—they’ve released strange snippets of creepy ambiance in a secretive, puzzle-ish way—and now “Reach For The Dead,” initially broadcast in Japan, confirms it. It’s been a little over a year since Radiohead released their latest record, The King of Limbs, uniting indie rockers and frat boys as only a band as widely adored as Radiohead can. Sure, the band just played a pair of shows at Coachella, but otherwise things have been quiet on the Radiohead front -- or have they?

Last night, King of the Dolphins Thom Yorke and his band in that haven of garden-variety hipness: Miami. Radiohead pulled heavily from their most recent full-length, The King of Limbs, which you probably heard for about five minutes and then passed out, woke up, and forgot it existed. Those still awake last night were treated to two new Radiohead songs, "Identikit" and "Cut A Hole." They're both pretty good if you're into that sort of thing. Along with British prime minister David Cameron, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? actor Bob Hoskins, and tennis star Andy Murray, the trio of musicians will release the track to iTunes on Nov. 7. Rather than a 60-years-later response to John Cage, the single was conceived in commemoration of Britain's Remembrance Day, with all proceeds benefiting British military veterans. “Rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognize the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance,” explained Chris Simpkins, the Director General of the Royal British League. Totally genius or supremely lazy?

Hey, Thom Yorke, lead singer of Radiohead, a band so staggeringly successful and popular that you were able to turn a profit just by asking people to pay for your last album, what are your opinions on the future of the music industry? "No great loss to the world." Cold, Thom. Hey, everyone who works in the music industry, "Get Out Of There!" I hope it's not too late.
