On January 7, music fans around the world celebrated the birth of Jay-Z and Beyonce's baby daughter, who wasted no time in becoming the youngest person to ever appear on a Billboard-charting song. At a mere two days of age, Blue Ivy Carter contributed a vocal track to "Glory," an emotional tribute song her dad released on his website LifeandTimes.com. But while I'm sure nobody had anything but warm and fuzzy thoughts for the newborn, there were a few hurt feelings around Lenox Hill Hospital - which the music industry power couple allegedly put on lockdown - with stories of beefy security guards preventing some parents from visiting their own newborns in the neonatal ICU. Enter comedian Rob Ryan, who, on our suggestion, recut "Glory" into "Lenox Hill Glory" with lyrics that recognize the plight of those frustrated moms and pops.

A pretty amazing movie trailer is circulating the web today, in anticipation of its premiere at Sundance on January 22. Shut Up and Play The Hits is an intimate look at the days leading up to LCD Soundsystem’s final shows at Madison Square Garden. More specifically, it’s "both a narrative film documenting this once in a lifetime performance, and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision." That’s according to the film’s website, anyway.

Girl Scout Cookies

It’s not every day someone offers you a cookie. Sure, a best-selling book has underscored the escalating mayhem that receiving just one cookie can ensue, but starting around the same time every January, all skepticism and resolutions are shelved with the start of Girl Scout Cookie Season. Swarms of elfish figures - festooned in green vests, sashes, and geometric badges - take to the streets, stoops, and outlet center parking lots with one spirited question: “Do you want a cookie?” YES. Yes, we do. And with Girl Scouts celebrating its 100th anniversary with the arrival of their new sunshiny, powdered sugar-dusted “Savannah Smiles,” it’s only appropriate that a massive package of controversy appears, attempting to crumble the Girl Scouts' beloved cookie season.

This is Riley. She would like you to know that you shouldn’t feel pressured to purchase toys based on your gender, or gift others strictly on their sex. You see, she’s fighting for gender fluidity in the name of Toys ‘R Us. She doesn’t exactly say it in those words, but you get the point. Riley is more succinct, pointing out that “some girls like superheroes, some girls like princesses, and some boys like superheroes, and some boys like princesses.”

babymakers

The Babymakers is a movie about semen, let’s just get that out of the way. The film, directed by Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekar, stars Olivia Munn and Paul Schneider as a married couple who try to conceive but can’t, because Schneider’s sperm count is too low. What follows is the full spectrum of semen-related plot devices, dialogue, and action. Watch the NSFW red band trailer below.

LouReed

Last night, Lou Reed and Metallica appeared on the BBC’s Later With Jools Holland to promote their new collaborative album, Lulu. Here’s some background information on the album: Influential music sites hate it. What it has going for it, however, is the fact that it’s contained within a compact disc or compressed lines of computer code, and that it doesn’t exist in the world of the living. But that changed last night when Lou Reed and Metallica performed in front of a live studio audience in Great Britain.

Akron power-blues duo The Black Keys just announced the release of their 7th album, El Camino, which hits stores (read: iTunes) on December 6th. If the first single, "Lonely Boy," is any indication, expect an LP chock-full of the band’s tasty licks and distorted vocals. The track is irresistibly danceable, and if you don’t believe us, check out the video below. If you can watch it without grinning ear-to-ear, then you are a soulless robot who deserves to be melted down for scrap metal.

The other day, rock n' roll headmistress Linda Perry had some not-nice things to say about Katy Perry, who, we were shocked to find out, isn't her daughter. The comments, made backstage at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood and recorded on video, may not have been wrong, but were shocking in their blind hypocrisy.
