The tweens behind Dear John’s runaway success have spoken, and Hollywood is listening. Everyone from the kids at Columbia Pictures to the lords of Screen Gems (the studio behind Dear John) is scrambling to cash in on John’s young love-meets-CW drama formula. While this mad dash to the teen girl wallet isn’t shocking, it sure is giving is a lot to look forward to and fear in the coming months:

Bye Bye Birdie, the remake: Producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Columbia Pictures have been pushing for a Bye Bye remake for quite a while now. Thanks to Dear John’s record-breaking opening, the project is in the works. Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist scribe Lorene Scafaria will pen the screenplay. Rumor has it Adam Shankman of Hairspray glory is on to produce. Zac Efron: this one’s calling your name. Cameos from the cast of Glee would be inspired, much appreciated.

Sweet Valley High: Remember the soapy 80’s Sweet Valley franchise? The ‘novels’ told the story of the beautiful Wakefield sisters and were like, totally, the hot books on the playground back in ’84. Now they’re the inspiration behind Juno’s Diablo Cody latest screenplay. Cody will be adapting the books for Universal Pictures over the next couple months. She has 152 story lines to choose from, and more than enough drama to work with. [Five boyfriends die over the sisters’ high school years. One girl falls in love with a prince and a viscount.] Get scared.

Au Pairs: OC creator and Gossip Girl super-producer Stephanie Savage is now working on Au Pairs, a picture that Vulture IDs as “Cruel Intentions set on Fire Island.”

Beautiful Girl: Screen Gem's tale of a high school teacher gone haywire over a beautiful, nerdy student. This one comes from the unlikely source –Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Cunningham. I’ll leave you with a quote from Cunningham':

"While I was writing about Virginia Wolff, my mind was never far removed from the idea of girls in bikinis being hacked up by guys wearing hockey masks, and I vowed that if I ever had a good idea, I would write one of these scary movies."
